About
Between about 30° to 35° north and 30° to 35° south of the equator lies the region known as the horse latitudes- an area of subsiding dry air and high pressure which results in little wind. Sailors gave the region of the the name “horse latitudes” because sailing ships would stall and face stranding at sea; fearful of running out of food and water, they threw their horses overboard to save on provisions. These regions are also known as the Calms.
Throw nothing overboard, just enjoy the calm.
