Best of 2008 (part one)

Let the Right One In is a beautifully evocative vampire film by Swedish director Tomas Alfredson. In lesser hands this tale of youthful alienation could have become some cliched teen love story (it still might) but here the tone is much darker-almost serving as the perfect counterpoint to more mainstream vampire fare such as Twilight. It’s a film that constantly surprises, leaving the veiwer undecided as to whether they have witnessed is a naive portrayal of teenage romance or a study on the dangerously seductive power on evil.
Either way this film will haunt you, lingering in the mind like the endless Scandanavian winter that serves as it’s backdrop.
