clean sheets

there’s a certain homelyness to my homilies.

they usually come back to log fires, crisp linen, home cooking, hand stitched, i’m sure it gets a little twee and dull sometimes but i’ve started this week with that relieved, fresh bedding feeling.

like the fog’s starting to clear, or i’ve gotten round to rubbing the sleep from my eyes. like i can finally say with some conviction that i’m enjoying the view from here.

part of this re-invigoration seems to be a desire to find new music again.

thank heavens.

not i can claim any kind of credit for today’s gem, hl compardre and all round lamb’s conduit, joe p pointed woodpigeon out to me since they’re taking him away to devon in a week or so.

at various points polyphonic chorus of harpsichords, glockenspiels, pianos, french horns and wirebrushes or delicately plucked guitar & multi-tracked vocals (and a great song about going to ninja school) woodpigeon are from the sufjan school of florid and flowery song titles (take ‘home is a romanticised place where everyone loves you always and forever’ as evidence) they are also from canada which is lovely.

everytime i think there’s some way of summing up woodpigeon i listen to another song and change my mind. and while that is pretty damn infuriating for apposite blog review purposes its making for a joyful listening experience. maybe its an indecisive monday thing but so far they’ve reminded me of most of my favourite bands at one point or another.

so i can’t urge you strongly enough to go here and listen to the houndstooth ep (which is bitchin… really it is). download all six, learn the words off by heart and come and sing them back to woodpigeon on their uk tour later this month.

they would really like that i think.
