dusty balearia

Sometimes my work in the jet set world of music and t’ing surprises even me by throwing up a track from an unlikely source.
This little bounder was caught hiding on a soundtrack to the film Scandal. It’s Dusty Springfield from the mid 80s, with Pet Shop Boys on production. Make of it what you will. I’m currently feeling it, and lucked out to find a 12 online for next to nothing.
I’d love to tell you it is some obscure classic that I first heard at one of Malcolm McLaren’s house parties in 1989, where Grace Jones was DJing on stilts and the cocktails were served in fur-trimmed test tubes and platinum goldfish bowls…
But I heard it at work…

it must of got played somewhere - cos theres a dodgy italian cover version - that sbesquently got a paul oakenfold - land of oz - remix - i quite like it - but its gotta be the dub - cant handle the lyrics - reminds me too much of the film - “wet your lips” - yeah right

I love this track, and their cover of “What have I done to deserve this?”. Wish they’d recorded more together. I remember, as a mere schoolboy at the time, thinking that she sounded much better than Neil Tennant! Not that I’ve got anything against Neil Tennant, I just thought her voice and their music went together perfectly. Never heard the versions/remixes though, Rob…

…erm, except “What have I done…?”’s not a cover, is it? Sorry, not sure what I was thinking of…
