High Plains Drifter

The poster above is from a collection of amazing polish film art, which features loads of familiar films given a unique stylistic twist. As the constant search for newness draws London ever deep into east europe,it’s a shame that in an increasingly global community we risk losing all the culture born of isolation- I bet Polish film posters now are the same as the ones in my local Odeon. Having France on the brain at the moment it’s hard not to think about the lengths the French go to protect their culture. Maybe what from this side of the channel seems like crazy french cultural protectionism, is actually something we come to regret not doing ourselves one day. The British (well the London way) seems to be to absorb as many influences as you can, constantly searching for fresh things to steal and incorporate in the mad flux of life.
Keeping with that ‘joy of spring’ feeling (before winter returns next week),here is chicago’s super-uplifting ‘new beginnings‘. It’s one of those tunes that doesn’t really kick in for about 3 minutes, but when it does it just keeps building and won’t let go. If you’re in the right mood -maybe a couple of rum punches later, or just on the way home from a week in the south of france, sun reflecting off the sea, burning away the early morning mist as you speed by on the TGV-youcould be forgiven for thinking you had stumbled across the musical equivalent of the holy grail-7 minutes that perfectly capture a mood and somehow incorporate nu-yourican funk and west coast rock with enough blue-eyed soul to create something brand new and never heard before.
Have a great weekend.
