so i did manage to go a whole month without officially posting on j. tillman afterall.
but i’m not about to keep new material from you.
from his new album ‘cancer and delirium’ which was recorded at his home over the past few months and is due out this april.
the man of simple pleasures, who is josh is “very excited about it”, it looks like he’ll be back in the UK for shows in late spring so keep your eyes and ears peeled for more opportunities to swim in his lovely songs.
theres something of breaking through in this new stuff, like you can feel him stepping closer to the microphone, bringing his music out from the shadows.
and i don’t think its just the beautifully evocative title and lyrics of these first teasers from the new album which is making me feel that. i’m only going on what i’ve heard here but there are more voices, a straighter spine and a bolder nerve in this new work. and maybe its the newly burly beard but his fragile voice while still tender and raw seems rounder, surer and newly warmed.
head over to tillman’s myspace page to hear two other beautiful cuts (or biopsies?) from ‘cancer & delirium’ – ‘evans and falls’ and ‘milk white air’ as well as the downloadable ‘when i light your darkened door’ or just get it here.
